Elegant Knitting Bag

Please note that the yarn color shown in the instructional photos may vary from the color included in your box.

Materials:

  • Two and a half skeins of Harvest Moon yarns
  • US size 9 (5.5mm) knitting needles
  • Sewing needle
  • Ruler
  • Scissors

Stitches uses / abbreviations:

  • K – knit
  • P – purl
  • Cast off
  • Cast on
  • Drop stitch

We will knit 4 parts for the bag and assemble them.

Casting the stitches

Cast 20 stitches.

First pattern

Row 1, 2, 3

Slip 1st stitch and k all stitches.

Row 4

Slip 1st stitch, and k the next stitch.

Yarn over two times, k – repeat * this pattern till the end of the row and k the last stitch.

Row 5 (drop stitch row)

Slip the 1st stitch, k, drop two loops out of the left needle without casting them – repeat * this pattern till the end of this row, knit the last stitch.

Stretch down the stitches with your hand so that dropped stitches form loops and are aligned cleanly and nicely.

Row 6

Slip the 1st stitch, k all stitches.

Stitches in this row will be loose while knitting; stretch them down when you finish this row.

Row 7, 8, 9

Slip the 1st stitch, k all stitches.

Row 10 – repeat row 4.

Row 11 – repeat row 5.

Row 12 – repeat row 6.

Continue knitting with the exact instructions – 3 rows of k all stitches, 1 row of casting
dropped stitches (*row 4), 1 row of dropping the stitches (*row 5), followed by 1 row of k
and stretching down the dropped stitches (*row 6).

When you make the 11th drop stitch row (*row 5), k next 3 rows and cast off at the 4th row.

This part will measure approximately 14 inches.

Cast off, cut the yarn, and leave at least 20 inches of yarn for sewing.

Knit the second part of the bag using the same instructions.

Second pattern

Cast on 21 stitches.

Row 1

Slip 1st stitch and k all the stitches.

Row 2

Slip 1st stitch.

Insert the right needle between the next two stitches and cast the knit stitch; you will have 1 stitch on the right needle above the stitch on the left needle and knit on the back loop of the left needle stitch.

Repeat * this instruction till the end of this row, k the last stitch.

Row 3

Slip 1st stitch.

K, place the yarn in front of the left needle, slip stitch, place the yarn back of the left needle – repeat *this instruction till the end of the row, k the last stitch.

Row 4

Slip 1st stitch.

K 2 together in the back loops, repeat *this instruction till the end of the row, k last stitch.

Front side of the project will look like this.

Repeat rows 1-4 17 more times (approximately 14 inches). K the next row and cast off.

Repeat the same pattern and knit another part with the exact instructions.

Assembling the bag

Choose the front and back sides of the project and place the back side up, as shown in
the photos below.

Take the needle and sew the edges that touch each other. Once you finish sewing touching edges, slightly twist and attach the edges next to each other. Take the needle and sew the edges. Repeat this instruction to sew all neighboring edges together.

Turn the bag inside out, and you will see the bucket bag with 4 pointy parts. We will attach straps to the pointy ends.

Cast on 6 loops, leave long yarn to use it for sewing the straps.

Row 1 – 15 – k all sts.

Rows 2-16 – p all sts.

Row 17 – k 1st, *yarn over 2, k, repeat *this pattern till the end of this row.

Row 18 – p 1st, *drop 2 loops out of the needle, p, repeat *this pattern till the end of this row.

Repeat rows 1-18 two times.

Repeat rows 1-16.

Cast off.

Cut the yarn and leave extra yarn to attach the strap to the bag.

Use the needle and extra yarn on the strap and sew stitch by stitch to the pointy tip of the bag. Attach straps to all 4 pointy tips.
